Description
Thermal mass gas meters work based on a sensor that is placed inside the gas meter. This sensor generally consists of a microheater and two temperature sensors on both sides of this microheater. According to the measurement of the temperature difference before and after the electric microheater (which is in the path of the gas flow) and use of this temperature difference (which is caused by the deviation of the heat flux of the microheater due to the passing gas flow) and the algorithms related to the sensor, thermal mass gas meters can calculate the passing gas flow rate and as a result the passing volume of the fluid flow with high accuracy. In fact, the considered processor inside the sensor processes this temperature difference and transmits it to the microcontroller after linearization.
This gas meter displays the measured volume value on the screen in terms of standard cubic meters. In addition, the real time flow rate can be displayed on the screen in cubic meters per hour.
This gas meter has the capability of remote reading in different communication platforms. These communication platforms are:
1- wM-Bus communication platform: these gas meters can receive information of gas meter at a maximum distance of 200 meters by RF module which uses wM-Bus protocol. The information of these gas meters can be received by a walk-by and a tablet or stationary reading and using a data collector which is installed near gas meters, and sending the information of the meters on the server.
2- LoRaWAN communication platform: These gas meters use LoRa module, which can send information up to several kilometers. The collector (Gateway) is used to receive information and this information is sent to the central server on the Internet platform.
3- GSM/GPRS communication platform: it uses GSM/GPRS module and by inserting the SIM card into the gas meters, the information of that gas meter can be viewed directly on the server.
The advantages and capabilities of mass thermal gas meter:
- Very low pressure drop.
- The good sensitivity and accuracy.
- The possibility of using for natural gas and air.
- Low depreciation due to no moving mechanical parts
- Ability to operate despite of dust particles according to the standard
- Low volume and weight and suitable for places with limited space
- Certificate of compliance with the conditions and requirements of the EN14236 standard from NMi Netherlands.
- Measuring gas consumption in this gas meter is independence of temperature and pressure of the incoming fluid (measurement of the standard volume of gas) .
- Identifying the composition of the passing gas based on the EN437 standard, and as a result, the measurement parameters are independent of the chemical composition of the gas.
The comparison of thermal mass gas meter with diaphragm gas meter:
- Light weight
- Wide range of calibration
- Preventing from unauthorized manipulation.
- The absence of mechanical parts inside the gas meter.
- Measurement of standard volume (separate from pressure and temperature).
